Vancouver, Washington is a wonderful city that lies on the northern bank of the wide Columbia River, close to where it joins the Willamette River. Founded in 1857, the city is part of the Portland-Vancouver metro area.
Known as a progressive and modern community, many of those who live in Vancouver work in the technology sector, and the average income is middle- to upper-middle class.
With its scenic location by the river, beautiful wooded hills and generally mild climate, water sports and outdoor activities are very popular in Vancouver. Fishing, boating, hiking, and bike riding are avidly pursued along the many trails and waterfront access parks.
Numerous neighborhoods and small communities spread out south and east of the city, and upscale homes are nestled into the hills to the west. Vancouver gives residents opportunities for urban living or a small-town atmosphere outside of the metro area with convenient access to the city.
