Oregon Job Growth

How is Oregon Job Growth? The State of Oregon Employment Department announces that although 2900 new jobs were added in Oregon in the month of August, the unemployment rate inched up to 7.2% which is slightly above that of July which was 6.9%. What attributes to this? The increase in those moving into Oregon from other states has caused an increase in the number of people entering the job market in Oregon therefore the new job growth in August was not quite enough to further reduce the unemployment rate however the overall job market in Oregon remains strong and growth in Deschutes County is outpacing that of the rest of the State.  August numbers Statewide showed the 12th increase over the last 14-month period and the total number of jobs is 40,700 above where it was just one year ago and 127,300 above the recessionary low.

The City of Bend Urban Growth

The City of Bend has recently reached out to community members to sit on various think tank boards in order to maximize the public input on urban boundaries. Growth of the city is inevitable however the vision is that this growth moves forward in a positive way. Great video talking about what we can do, how we can be heard and what the overall vision for Bend is over the next 20 years.

Bend-Best River Towns in the US

Fodor’s Travel is a long time favorite resource for travel tips, itineraries and hot spots near and far. A recent article notes Bend as one of America’s 10 Best River Towns. The Deschutes River is known to be both wild and scenic with deep pockets available for serene floating or stand up paddle boarding and world class fly fishing. It was this very river that actually put the area on the map, first as an important part of the local economy and now as an adventure destination. Great place to visit but a really great place to call home! To read more about Fodor’s Favorite River Towns.
