First Thursday in Portland’s Pearl District with Artist Kalvin Panther
Kalvin Panther is a self-taught illustrator and graphic artist. Growing up with comic books and in the skateboard culture, Kalvin has always been attracted to illustrated art but did not serious about it until 2005, when he began building concert posters for a promotion company he operated with a close friend. From there, he began drawing commissioned pieces of pop icons, often with tightly scripted text, pulled from the respective subjects field of work, filling the background. In-between commissions, Kalvin will spend hours on intricately lined abstract forms drawn over either his own prose and poetry or bold rich color. Rolling thick interior house paint onto sheetrock between layers of polyurethane creates a subtle layering effect. “The tedious line work is cathartic and necessary for me – if someone sees it and enjoys a piece enough to make it a part of their life, that’s just an amazing compliment I am happy to receive.”
Please join us Thursday, August 4th at our Pearl District Office (1321 NW Hoyt Street, Portland, OR) from 5 – 8 PM, to enjoy Kalvin Panther’s art, as well as wine, appetizers and spirit sampling courtesy of Crafted Life.

My excitement for abstract comes from taking the landscape apart and putting it back together with the process of confident strokes and a passion for color.”
