We are excited to have artist Sandy Dutko for Lake Oswego’s Third Thursday. Sandy is a local Portland artist who enjoys painting in several mediums. Although most of her recent work is in watermedia and collage, she also likes to experiment with oils and pastels and her paintings have become more abstract in the past years. Sandy’s work varies from semi-abstract, to pure abstract, depending on her mood and subject matter. Her approach to painting is experimental and her process often begins with textured abstract starts. Each step leads to the next, allowing her imagination to take the painting in a new direction. This unpredictable approach to painting is exciting and full of surprises.
I enjoy taking risks. I believe that it leads to more interesting art and growth as an artist.
Sandy is a member of: Lake Area Artists, Watercolor Society of Oregon, Oregon Society of Artists, Painters Showcase of Portland, and Buffalo Grass Art Society. She is also one of the twenty local artists at the Art on Broadway Gallery in Beaverton. Her work is exhibited yearly at “Art Affair” Lake Area Artists Annual Show, Painters Showcase, and at the Buffalo Grass Society Annual Art Show. Sandy has also shown her work at the Oregon Society of Artists Gallery, Lake Oswego Festival of Arts, Southminster Presbyterian Celebration of Creativity Show, Rain Dance Ranch Gallery, and at the Portland Home and Garden Show. Her paintings have been juried into the River Sea Gallery, Manley Art Center, and the Elsinore Fine Art Gallery through the Watercolor Society of Oregon. Her painting “New Territory” can be seen in the North Light published book “Incite 2 Color Passions” the Best of Mixed Media.

We are excited to have artist Paul Solevad for January’s First Friday event in Vancouver, Washington. Paul was born and raised in California and received his B.F.A. in Painting from Cal Lutheran University in 1992. He spent seven years working for multiple art studios in the San Francisco bay area, doing hand-painted reproduction work for music retail and restaurant chains, as well as large-scale murals for trade shows and theater productions. During this time, he also pursued developing his own painting work for exhibit.
In 1999, Paul and his wife, Kama, migrated to Portland. In this time, Paul has continued painting and exhibiting in various restaurants, studios and gallery spaces. He has also done editorial illustration work for publications such as Willamette Week, The Bear Deluxe, and Progressive magazine. Paul moved across the river to Camas in 2005 and is currently involved with the Arts of Clark County Open Studios. Living and working in Camas has been an excellent opportunity for him to connect with the local community and build a peer group of other artists.

We are happy to be displaying the work of artist Theresa Andreas-O’Leary, for January’s First Thursday event in the Pearl District. Theresa is inspired by the changing landscape and seasonal light, imploring her brush to document memories. Her paintings feature embedded light circles, gold metal leaf, and mixed-media to create depth and texture. Theresa’s use of modernistic striated layers of paint weave ghostlike images within her work, and reflect a stained glass aesthetic. Layered hues can be found in the fields of sacred hallowed ground, open spaces, and farms that dot the contoured hillsides.

We are thrilled to be displaying the work of Rod Frederick for January’s First Friday event in Bend, OR. Wildlife painter Rod Frederick is a native Oregonian, born in Salem and raised mostly in the Portland area. Coming from a family of outdoor enthusiasts, much time was spent hiking and camping throughout the lush Pacific Northwest. Art and creativity were also very important to the family so it was a natural step for Rod to attend Willamette University and graduate with a degree in art and a minor in biology. After college, a constant curiosity of the bigger world led him to expand outside of the Northwest. The quest for new painting subjects has taken Rod on adventures in Central and South America as well as Europe and Africa.
Travel is exciting but I always feel at home in the mountains of the Northwest. Central Oregon has been my home since 1987 and the inspiration never stops.
In a “traditional realist” style, Rod typically paints with oils on Belgian linen. He often applies thin glazes on top of bolder forms to achieve a play of light, depth, and atmosphere. His paintings have been featured in several books including “Return Of The Peregrine,” “Owls Of North America,” and “The Best Of Wildlife Art.” His work has been chosen for inclusion in Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum’s annual “Birds In Art” exhibition over a dozen times. Recently Rod’s painting of a Kit Fox was selected by Oregon Department Of Fish and Wildlife as the 2013 Habitat Stamp image. Rod’s paintings have been published as limited edition prints by The Greenwich Workshop since 1983.

We are excited to have artist Lynne Wintermute for Lake Oswego’s Third Thursday. As a native Oregonian, Lynne has always appreciated the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. She is a Portland local, educated at Linfield College and the Museum Art School and has studied with many local and national artists over the years, continuing to perfect her craft.
Wintermute’s inspiration is all around her, from ocean sunsets to the forest and rivers; the colors of Oregon come through with passion, in her paintings. Preferring to work on larger canvases or board surfaces, Lynne paints primarily with acrylic on canvas, using hundreds of layers of paint in each piece. She employs an alcohol dissolve technique, to pull color and texture from under layers. While most of her work is on commission, Lynne’s pieces can be seen at galleries and shows throughout the Northwest.
