First Friday in Bend with Diane Browning

We are excited to host Diane Browning for October’s First Friday event in Bend. Browning credits the beginning of her career as a professional textile designer and sewer to her childhood, when her mother taught her to make clothes for her dolls. As Browning grew up, she began sewing her own and eventually she turned her passion for designing and creating textiles into a career as an artist. Please join us this Friday, October 2 from 5-8pm at our Bend location (650 SW Bond St. Bend, OR, 97702) for art, live music and appetizers! Event sponsored by Norma DuBois and Julie Moe.

Roger Lee of EDCO Lands Lifetime Achievement Award

Earlier this month, the STAR Awards for Greatness and Excellence were held. The annual event, which is run by the Bend Chamber of Commerce,  showcases and celebrates the very best that Central Oregon has to offer. This year, the inaugural “Lifetime Achievement Award” was given to Roger Lee, the Executive Director of Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO). Roger beat out over 50 other nominees that were made up of Bend Chamber members. Cascade Sotheby’s International Realty would like to offer our congratulations to Roger and thank him for all he has done for Central Oregon.

Is Bend Big Enough?

According to recent census reports, Deschutes County is the 7th fastest-growing metro area in the country – adding 4,400 people in the last year. Unlike the rest of the country, Deschutes County Commissioner Tony DeBone was quoted as saying, “We had a positive population growth even during the recession”. With the rapid increase of people moving to Central Oregon in combination with less than 1 percent of available rental housing inventory, one must question if we have the resources to sustain the influx. To answer this, the community as a whole may need to take a serious, thoughtful and immediate look at the expedited expansion of the urban growth boundary, a discussion that has already been ongoing for years.
