Cascade Sotheby’s International Realty acquires Avenue Properties in Hood River, Oregon

Portland, Oregon (June 3, 2019)Cascade Sotheby’s International Realty has acquired Avenue Properties Oregon serving the entire Columbia River Gorge on both sides of the river in Oregon and Washington effective immediately. Avenue Properties Oregon was formed in 2018 by top real estate producers and partners, Molly Donnell and Renee England, who join the Cascade Sotheby’s team with five other area agents.

With the addition of Avenue Properties, Cascade Sotheby’s International Realty increases market share in the luxury, vacation and second home, and farm/ranch/vineyard sectors and enhances its regional presence in the Pacific Northwest. First Thursday in The Pearl | June 2019

Join us for First Thursday on June 6, 2019 from 5pm-8pm at our Pearl Office (1321 NW Hoyt Street, Portland, OR 97209). We will be featuring local artist, Laura Janes, as she presents her show: “Hidden Beauty”.

The paintings in this show are all about seeing beauty in places that might not be considered beautiful.

Raindrops in gutters, tropical foliage growing in parking lots, rocks and weeds around the shoreline of lakes and rivers.

Each painting is designed to focus on beauty that might ordinarily be overlooked.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Laura Janes is a fine artist specializing in painting things found in the environment not always considered to be beautiful. She draws inspiration from elements found in the natural world, including desert plants, trees, water, and rocks. She works primarily in acrylic on canvas as well as in watercolor, and occasionally creates mixed media pieces using images, gold and silver leaf, and encaustic materials.

Her work is available through galleries and design professionals for both residential and commercial applications.

She came to the Portland area from Palm Springs and continues to work with designers and their clients in both parts of the world.

Additionally, to share in the celebration of designs and structures she paints small watercolors of homes, buildings, interiors and landscapes. These vignettes are a way to show more than the standard “documentary” image.  The paintings are sometimes of a small area, overlooked in the more formal portrait of a room or garden. In addition to the original watercolor painting, notecards and notecard sets are created. 

Currently she is painting for the Restore Oregon Modernism Home Tour, Lake Oswego Heritage Council to record and honor the homes in this year’s Home and Garden Tour as well as painting watercolors for the Friends of the Rogerson Clematis Collection, at Luscher Farm, for their spring events.  She also works with the Palm Springs Art Museum and their Architecture and Design Center and Palm Desert location to paint and make cards of important midcentury modern buildings in the Palm Springs area for sale in their museum stores.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Originally from Tampa, Florida, Michelle relocated to Oregon with her husband and daughter in 2015. Inspired by her mother and brother’s artistic talents, Michelle began drawing and painting at the age of 5. Today, Michelle uses oils, acrylics and watercolors to make her paintings come to life. She draws using various mediums and enjoys clay sculpting as well. Her recent work focuses on brightly-colored abstract florals and landscapes which she creates using acrylics, oils and palette knives. “There is something beautiful, fun and modern about making chaotic blobs of paint come together to produce a scene,” Michelle explains, “and Oregon has given me the best backdrop possible for my painting style”.

April First Friday Art Walk in Downtown Bend

The  Animal paintings of two local artists, Vivian Olsen and Barbara Slater, are featured at Cascade Sotheby’s Realty on Wall St. during the month of April. Both artists will be present to meet with visitors during First Friday Art Walk for their painting exhibit, “Kaleidoscope”.

Vivian Olsen’s interest in portraying animals began as a girl living in the California hills and continued to grow while living in the mountains of Idaho. There she began painting waterfowl, birds of prey and various mammals while she worked as an assistant for a wildlife biologist and she set her goal to become a wildlife artist. Long ago she attained that goal and for years has been painting wildlife portraits with watercolors or pastels that capture the animal’s beauty and lively personality. Vivian says, “Animals have always given me a sense of peace and joy so, I paint what I love – animals.”

Barbara Slater’s oil painting subjects are lively  animals ranging from curious goats to dreamy-eyed cows, and other farm-yard animals  She paints her subjects with bold brush strokes and rich oil pigmentation. She says, “Color, to me, is magic and the color in nature just kills me! – it’s where color comes from!” Slater’s love for art began when she was 10 and took an art school correspondence course. Over the years she has continued to challenge herself as an artist and learn new techniques and skills.

About the Artist

Christopher Mooney is known as a professional artist in Portland, OR for his urban landmarks, primarily bridges, industrial sites and working heroes, and is currently creating commissioned portraits. He creates his large-scale oils from photo references.  Born and raised in Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York, surrounded by an artistic family of writers, musicians, and architects amidst the vast New York art scene, he received a Bachelor Fine Arts Degree from Parson’s School of Design. He continues to enjoy studies in portraiture and figurative workshops at Pacific Northwest Collage of Art, Portland, OR and the Oil Painters of America.

Inspiration

“I enjoy hiking around the bridges of Portland, Oregon, with my camera,” Christopher explains, “I step off the sidewalks to get a different perspective of the city where the landscape is framed by its bridges. The photos I use are references for me to create original oils. I create large scale images using projections or grids, from photo references, mixing colors similar to old masters’ technique to at least match the likeness.”

Sotheby’s International Realty® Brand Exceeds Record $112 Billion in Global Sales Volume for 2018

Sotheby’s International Realty Affiliates LLC has reported that in 2018 its affiliated brokers and sales professionals achieved more than $112 billion USD in global sales volume, the highest annual sales volume performance in the history of the brand. Additionally, 27 affiliated companies surpassed $1 billion USD in sales volume in 2018.

“Experts predicted that 2018 would be a slow year for the global real estate market,” said Philip White, president and chief executive officer, Sotheby’s International Realty Affiliates LLC. “Despite the forecast, our talented affiliated companies and their sales associates continued to perform at the top of their game to drive a year-over-year sales volume increase that is truly remarkable. We are going to keep the momentum going in 2019 and we will continue to empower the Sotheby’s International Realty network by offering innovative products, tools, and research to provide best-in-class service.”

Global Growth

The Sotheby’s International Realty brand also reported growth across its global network. At year-end, the network totaled more than 990 offices in 72 countries and territories and more than 22,500 affiliated sales associates worldwide.

In the United States, the Sotheby’s International Realty brand achieved more than $100 billion USD in sales volume in 2018. This year witnessed continued significant growth by the brand’s existing affiliate companies through talent attraction as well as mergers and acquisitions. Most notably, the brand increased its market presence in Essex and the Acton-Boxborough area of Massachusetts; Greater Portland, Oregon; and Nashville, Tennessee. The brand also entered several key new markets last year, namely, Bandon, Oregon; Huntsville, Alabama; the Sandhills Region of North Carolina; Mendocino, Fort Bragg, and Ventura, California.

Outside the United States, the Sotheby’s International Realty brand achieved more than $12 billion USD in sales volume in 2018 while continuing to expand into key markets. In Europe, the brand grew its presence in Menorca and Madrid, Spain; Sylt and Bern, Germany; Kitzbühel, Austria; Zurich, Switzerland; and Slovakia. The brand also sold the rights to the island country of Cyprus. In Asia, new offices were opened in Colombo, Sri Lanka; and Bangkok, Thailand, and agreements were signed to expand into Jakarta and Bali in Indonesia, and Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam and the Maldives. The brand also saw growth in Mexico City, Mexico; the Metropolitan area of Puebla; Valle de Bravo and Malinalco in Estado de Mexico; and Cuernavaca and Tepoztlán in Morelos.

Marketing Innovation

2018 was an impactful year for the brand with the roll-out of new tools and offerings. Sotheby’s International Realty became the first real estate brand to launch and implement a virtual staging augmented reality app, transforming the home buying and selling experience for sales associates and consumers with the launch of Curate by Sotheby’s International Realty℠. Design Vault, a cloud-based ad-builder tool was also unveiled, allowing companies and agents to create advertising, marketing and social assets with ease. The brand entered a custom-publishing relationship with The Wall Street Journal / Barron’s Group to present RESIDE®, a bespoke luxury lifestyle magazine providing affiliate companies around the world a turnkey solution to creating a customized, branded magazine. The publication’s inception also birthed the brand’s new podcast series. In partnership with Inman, an exclusive channel called Leading in Luxury was launched, featuring experts from the Sotheby’s International Realty brand discussing trends, best practices and innovations in luxury real estate.

“As much as it was revolutionary, 2018 was also an affirmative year for the brand,” said Kevin Thompson, chief marketing officer, Sotheby’s International Realty Affiliates LLC. “The Sotheby’s International Realty brand has always stood at the forefront of innovation in the industry, but we recognize that in order to maintain this standard, we need to continue to press forward. With the launch of new technology and tools, we continued that tradition, always aiming to provide industry-leading levels of service that sales associates affiliated with Sotheby’s International Realty around the world are known for.”

The Sotheby’s International Realty brand website, sothebysrealty.com, saw another record year with more than 30 million visits, a 13 percent increase year-over-year, with 13 percent of traffic generated from new users. Top searches on sothebysrealty.com in the United States included New York, New York; Malibu, California; and Los Angeles, California. Outside of the United States, the top locations searched were London, United Kingdom; Paris, France; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Lake Como, Italy; and Sydney, Australia.

Additional Achievements

The Sotheby’s International Realty brand’s affiliated companies and sales associates raised nearly $1 million USD to date for New Story, the brand’s charitable partner and a certified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The funds raised have gone directly to the construction of new homes in Morelos, Mexico for families who lost their homes in the 2017 earthquakes.

“It was awe-inspiring to visit the families in Mexico whose lives will be forever changed by the generosity of our network,” said White following a recent trip to visit two recently constructed communities in Mexico. “Partnering with New Story as a charitable partner allowed us to extend the services we provide daily: to help people discover homes that allow them to live their best life.”

The Sotheby’s International Realty® brand claimed 40 of the top 250 sales associates in the Individual Sales Volume category of the 2018 REAL Trends/The Wall Street Journal The Thousand.” In addition, 12 teams affiliated with the Sotheby’s International Realty brand were recognized as being among the top 250 teams in the nation by sales volume. The annual report ranks America’s top 1,000 residential real estate agents and teams based on 2017 annual sales volume and transaction sides.

About the Artist

Aneela Fazal is a self taught contemporary artist whose modern compositions use color, texture and energetic brushstrokes to evoke emotion in the viewer. Her art possesses a vibrant and powerful energy, created with a carefully balanced pairing of strong and loose impressionistic painting styles. Her art has taken her all around the world with shows in Barcelona, Florence, Monte Carlo, France, Oxford and a yearly show in New York. Aneela’s recent body of work is called “Outside the lines”. The color palette for this series consists of colors that are opposites on the color wheel. The idea behind this is to look beyond perfection and to break some rules.

Artistic Inspiration

Aneela’s daughter is the inspiration behind “Outside the lines”. Aneela noticed her daughter’s ability to look at imperfections in a way that allowed the imagination to take over, and captured this in her artwork. Just like her color palette for this series, Aneela and her daughter are complete opposites. For example, Aneela likes to stay very organized and has a systematic way of thinking, while her daughter has taught her to look outside of the box and break some rules. The medium Aneela is using is Fluid Ink. As it comes in contact with the canvas it has a mind of its own and as an artist Aneela loves this unpredictability.

Aneela aims to draw people to her art and hopes her pieces evoke a sense of joy. Growing up as a kid, Aneela was always the one who wanted to spend hours in her room painting. Aneela could always find a reason to paint and create art, and that has been a constant throughout her life as an artist.
