EXPLORE COMMUNITIES IN CENTRAL OREGON
Throughout Central Oregon you’ll find 26 golf courses, whitewater rafting, and fly-fishing, more than 1,000 climbing routes and 3,600 skiable acres at Mount Bachelor, another ski destination at Hoo Doo in Sisters, 1,200 miles of narrow dirt mountain bike trails (or singletrack), which double as snowshoeing and Nordic skiing trails in the winter, paddle boarding on one of the 40 lakes in the region, hiking and camping in the Three Sisters Wilderness, or climbing on Pilot Butte, a 479-foot-tall cinder cone in the center of Bend.
The region boasts some of the nation’s most livable communities all with world-class outdoor recreational pursuits as noted all around. From a ranch in Prineville to an upscale urban townhome in Bend to a golf course property on a Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio or David Kidd course and ultimately anything in between, the region presents a rare diversity of places to live—excellent medical facilities and schools as well as easy access to a municipal airport.
The Boston Globe reported that there is a reoccurring theme heard over and over again from locals. “It’s like Disneyland for people who like to be outdoors,” said Drew Bledsoe, former New England Patriots (and Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys) quarterback, who lives with his family in Bend. His wife, Maura, grew up in Portland. She wanted to return there; Bledsoe was more interested in Montana. “We came to Bend as a compromise,” he said. And, they haven’t looked back.
“We can step outside and get on hundreds of miles of mountain bike trails,” Bledsoe said in an interview. “The mountain [Mount Bachelor] is 20 minutes away. There’s plenty of golf. There are concerts, restaurants, art, and it’s all just the right size.”National Geographic has ranked Bend as one of the Top 25 Ski Towns in the World alongside locations such Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, Whitefish, Montana, Whistler, British Columbia, Wanaka, New Zealand and Kitzbühel, Austria. Travel+Leisure Magazine has also featured Bend as one of America’s top ski towns noting that above anything else, the single thing that makes a ski town, is authenticity and Central Oregon is big on that.
CNN recently ranked Bend as one of the Best Beer Towns in the United States with one brewery for every 9,111 people. The New York Times has said that Bend has a thirsty population with discriminating palates, making it one of the greatest destinations in the US to enjoy the locale and a number of great breweries. And the Boston Globe has coined Bend as Beer Town USA noting that it boasts gorgeous scenery, abundant outdoor recreation, and a lively vibe, making it one of the coolest and most eclectic mountain towns in the country.
Also important to note about Central Oregon is the sophisticated populous with a robust, diverse business environment and strong rooted entrepreneurial ecosystem. In fact, in 2012 Entrepreneur Magazine named Bend the most Entrepreneurial City in the Country. Locally-owned boutiques, wine shops, coffeehouses, and trendy restaurants line the streets throughout this region. In recent years, people with energy and ideas have discovered Central Oregon for a myriad of reasons. The tech industry is booming here and the medical field is drawing world-class care providers from all over the world.
